Two killed in a road accident during immersion procession

Bhilai, Sep 12: Two persons were killed and four were injured in a road accident which occurred during the immersion procession of Ganeshotsava in Bhilai Township on the intervening night of Monday. A speeding car rammed into the rear end of a truck trailer which was carrying the idol of Lord Ganesha. Two persons sitting on the rear end of the truck trailer were killed in the mishap. Four other persons suffered injuries while the car driver escaped unhurt. Relatives of the deceased created a scene at the hospital after the accident.

According to information, the members of a Ganeshotsava Committee of Sector 6 had taken out a procession late evening on Sunday. Around midnight, the procession reached near Ganesha Pandal of Sector 10 on Central Avenue. The devotees were dancing to the tunes of devotional songs. Two of the devotees Rama Shankar and Neeraj Verma were sitting at the rear end of the Truck Trailer for distributing Prasad. Meanwhile, a speeding car rammed into the rear end of the truck trailer. Shankar and Neeraj were crushed between the vehicles. Shankar died on the spot while Neeraj died at the hospital. The deceased Rama Shankar (30) was a resident of Street 37, Sector 6 while Neeraj Verma (37) was a resident of Maroda sector. Four other injured are recuperating at Sector 9 Hospital. The accused car driver had escaped from the spot after the accident. Later, Police took him into custody and a case was lodged against him.
