Sarpanch held for forcing 20-year-old to undergo abortion

Bhilai, Mar 24: Police have arrested a Sarpanch on charges of forcing a 20-year-old to undergo abortion. His nephew is the prime accused and has been already arrested in connection with this case. ASP (Rural) Praggya Meshram informed that the victim girl had approach Utai Police Station on January 02, 2021.
She had complained that one Om Prakash Thakur of village Marra was raping her since 2016 when she was 16-years-old. When she got pregnant, Om Prakash with help of his uncle Paleshwar Thakur forced her to undergo abortion. Paleshwar Thakur is the Sarpanch of village Marra.
A case was lodged unedrs ections 376, 313, 506, 120B, 34 of IPC and Section 5 (I), 6 of POCSO Act. The accused Om Prakash Thakur was arrested but Paleshwar Thakur had absconded. Since then, Police was continuously trying to trace him. Recently, police received a tip off that he is hiding in village Dundera.
Utai Police team led by Inspector Navi Monika Pandey reached the spot and the accused was taken in custody. During interrogation, he confessed to have committed the crime.
Inspector Navi Monika Pandey, Sub Inspector Bhupendra Ogre, ASI Chandra Shekhar Soni, Head Constable Ashwini Kumar, Constable Rajkumar Chandra and Narayan Lal Thakur played vital role in arresting the accused.
