Public representatives and bureaucrats ride scooters for nutrition awareness

Bhilai, Sep 01: The passion and determination of the citizens, public representatives and bureaucrats for the fight against malnutrition was visible in the Nutrition Awareness Rally organised under the National Nutrition Month observance here in Durg on Wednesday. MLA Arun Vora, Mayor Dheeraj Bakliwal and Collector Dr Sarveshwar Narendra Bhure rode scooters to lead the rally.
The rally was flagged off from the Collectorate and reached Manas Bhawan, passing through the important places of the city. Supervisors and Anganwadi workers of the Department of Women and Child Development participated in the bike rally. On this occasion, MLA Arun Vora said that the enthusiasm visible in the bike rally shows the determination of the people against malnutrition. He added that the concerned officials are doing a wonderful job in this field. On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, when the Chief Minister’s Nutrition Campaign was started on the instructions of the Chief Minister, we all had resolved that to work hard to eradicate malnutrition. The enthusiastic results are visible now. Well nourished children can only ensure the bright future of the country.
Mayor Dheeraj Bakliwal said that nutrition of children affects their mental physical development. Ensuring nutrition is a top priority task. We have to pay more attention to children at this tender age for ensuring better growth.
Collector Dr Sarveshwar Narendra Bhure said that the implementation of the Chief Minister’s Nutrition Campaign is among the top priorities for the administration. For the purpose, the administration has taken initiative through DMF. With the cooperation of public representatives and with the help of the staff of the Department of Women and Child Development, great success has been achieved in this sphere. “This work was very sensitive and I am glad that our Anganwadi workers and assistants continued their services despite the lockdown in difficult times of Corona. Ready to eat food was delivered to the children and regular monitoring of malnourished children was done. It gives me great pleasure to participate with ground staff in this nutrition rally”, Collector said. District Programme Officer Vipin Jain and other officers were present on this occasion. Jain told that nutrition rally was taken out in all the urban bodies and gram panchayats.
Chief Minister Suposhan Abhiyan was launched in the district on October 2, 2019. At that time, the percentage of children malnourished in the district was 15.71 and the number of malnourished children was 15413. After the launch of this campaign, now the percentage of malnutrition has come down to 13.49 and the number of malnourished children has reduced to 12322. In this way, more than three thousand children have come out of the purview of malnutrition during this period.
Under this scheme hot food, groundnut, soya, jaggery chikki were provided to malnourished children of 6 months to 54 months and anaemic lactating mothers. Every day, 10217 malnourished children and 263 anaemic mothers are being benefitted. An amount of about Rs 2.63 crore is being spent on this project. The well maintained software has been developed for effective monitoring of the scheme.
