Huge cache of banned gutka recovered

Food Safety Department conducts raid

Bhilai, Apr 04: Acting on a specific tip off provided by Inspector Vipin Rangari (SHO, Mohan Nagar), a team of the Food and Drug Administration recently raided a godown in Ward 24 of Durg. Police had received information that the illegal trade of banned gutka was being done from this place. The team recovered 89 bags of Pan Masala stored in the godown. The estimated value of the recovered Pan Masala is about Rs 10 lakh. The owner of this godown is one Saurabh Jaswani, son of Namdev Jaswani. 
The godown has been shut down with immediate effect as the owner was not able to produce an FSSAI license. Notice has been issued to the owner with the instructions to present a food license before the Food Safety Department. 
The team was led by District Food Safety Officer Richa Sharma. Food Safety Officer Narad Komre and the police personnel were also present during the raid. The sale, distribution, storage, and manufacture of food material without a food license is a punishable offense under Section 31 of the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 and Regulations 2011. According to the information obtained from the District Food Safety Officer Richa Sharma, strict action is being taken against the food traders who don’t own a food license.
