Bookies operate online betting worth crores from shanty; six held

Bhilai, Sep 27: In a major crackdown on Mahadev Book online betting racket, police have arrested six ruffians with betting records worth crores. Over a dozen mobile phones, laptops, computers, etc were also recovered from them. The accused were using a shanty as a hideout for operating the online betting racket.

While addressing media persons here at the Police Control Room on Tuesday, SP Dr Abhishek Pallava informed that they have been conducting an intensive operation against the illegal online betting for the last few days. A number of ruffians involved in this illegal activity have been arrested. On the basis of information received from them and analysis of data, Police are further tracing other people involved in online betting. In this sequel, another six bookies have been arrested. Police have discovered over a 100 mobile numbers related to Mahadev Book. The online betting is being conducted at the international level and other members of the gang are supposedly operating from Dubai (UAE) as well as Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, Nagpur, Uttar Pradesh and other states of the country. Police are analysing the mobile numbers in detail and are expecting some significant revelations very soon.

It needs to be mentioned here that after receiving information regarding operations of Mahadev Book, Reddy Anna and other online betting apps in Durg district, SP Dr Abhishek Pallava had directed ASP (City) Sanjay Dhruv and DSP (Crime) Nassar Siddiqui to tighten noose around the people involved in such illegal activities. Teams of ACCU and various police stations are maintaining vigil on the suspects and the network of informers has been activated. In the meanwhile, the joint team of Anti Crime Cyber Unit and Supela Police Station received a tip off regarding one Anubhav Jain of Sector 10. The suspects with his five other accomplices had gathered in a hutment located in a nursery near the Kosanala Toll Plaza to operate the online betting. Police team swung into action and the suspects were taken into custody. During sustained interrogation, Anubhav Jain and his accomplices confessed involvement in the online betting through Mahadev Book. They were providing IDs of Mahadev Book website to the people interested in betting. They were using bank accounts of various banks for the transfer of money. Illegal transactions of crores of rupees were done by them. 12 nos Mobiles, 04 nos Laptops, 01 nos Monitor, 01 CPU, 03 nos Keyboards, 04 nos Mouse, 01 Broadband, 04 nos Laptop Charger, 06 nos ATM Cards, 08 nos Cheque Book, 03 nos Passbooks, etc were recovered and seized from them. These items were used by the accused to operate the online betting activities.

The accused are identified as Anubhav Jain (35) son of Gyanchand Jain a resident of Zonal Market, Near Indian Coffee House, Sector 10; Harsh Kapoor (27) son of Rajkishore Kapoor a resident of Qr No 27-C, Street 37, Sector 07; Nutan Devangan (29) son of Kamal Devangan a resident of Sangram Chowk Sikolabhata Durg; Pradhuman Vishwakarma (24) son of Amarnath a resident of Phulpur, District Varanasi (UP); Pankaj Vishwakarma (21) son of Chhotelal a resident of Baragaon, District Varanasi (UP) and Shyamdev Vishwakarma (29) son of Bachelal a resident of Jalalpur, District Jaunpur (UP).
