Chhattisgarhiya Olympic fever on the rise in Durg district

Bhilai, Oct 09: With a large number of participants and audiences reaching the sports grounds, the Chhattisgarhiya Olympic fever is on the rise in the district. People from all walks of life including the homemakers are participating in the traditional sporting events. People are recollecting their childhood memories of playing with spinning tops, billas, kabaddi, etc.

Mayor Neeraj Pal appeared in sports mode on Sunday during his visit to the sports grounds of the city. He tried his hands on games like tug of war, spinning top, etc to encourage the players. His presence doubled the enthusiasm of the participants. Mayor Neeraj Pal visited Sector 9 Football Ground, Radhika Nagar Slaughter House, Shanti Nagar Dussehra Ground and JP School of Baikunth Dham. He participated in Sankhali, Pittool, Gilli Danda and Bhanwara. He stated that sports are necessary for physical and mental development. Instead of spending time on mobile and television, people must go for sports. Other public representatives also did not lag behind in Chhattisgarhiya traditional games. Congress District President Mukesh Chandrakar, BMC Speaker Girwar Bunty Sahu, MiC member and in-charge of Sports Department Aditya Singh, MIC member Chandrashekhar Gavai, Neha Sahu, Councilor Abhishek Mishra and others also enjoyed the games.

14 different types of Chhattisgarhiya traditional games including Pittul, Gilli Danda, Sankhali, Langdi Race, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Tug of War, Bati (Kancha), Billus, Gedi race, Bhanwara, 100 meter race and long jump, etc are being organised. People of all classes and age groups are flocking at the playgrounds to participate in the games. It needs to be mentioned here that on the instructions of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Chhattisgarhiya Olympic Games is being organized in the district.

BMC Commissioner Rohit Vyas has appealed to the citizens to enjoy the games at the sports facilities of the district. On-the-spot registration has also been arranged in the sports grounds. Anyone can participate in the games. The first phase is being organized from 6 to 11 October. The winners will participate in the subsequent stages and will be felicitated with prizes. On Monday, the games will be organized at Radhika Nagar Slaughter House Ground, Shanti Nagar Dussehra Ground, JP Nagar School, near Baikunthdham Water Tank and Sector 9 Football Ground. Additional Commissioner Ashok Dwivedi, Zone Commissioner NR Ratnesh, Manish Gaikwad, Pooja Pillai, Executive Engineer TK Randive, Sunil Dubey, Kuldeep Gupta and Mayor’s personal secretary Wasim Khan were present.

On Sunday, Raja Sonkar in boys category and Anjali Verma in girls category won the Gilli Danda competition; Kumari Sadhana won the Lungdi Race, Nikhil Pal and Uma Dewangan won the 100 meter race of their categories.
