3176 penalised for commuting without rhyme or reason

With the enforcement of lockdown in the district, the common people have been restricted to move around except in cases of medical emergency. But many people are coming on the road and are commuting without rhyme and reason. Traffic Police is taking strict action against such violators.
DSP (Traffic) Gurjeet Singh informed that under the directions of SP Prashant Thakur, Traffic Police is taking action against the violators right from the first day of lockdown i.e. April 06, 2021. District Collector Dr Sarveshwar Narendra Bhure has enforced lockdown in the district as an effort to curb the corona epidemic.
All types of services have been completely banned except emergency and essential services. People working in few sectors have been exempted. But there are many people who are not following the lockdown norms. Till date, Durg Traffic Police has taken action against 3176 drivers including 1564 riders (two-wheeler), 134 in share-auto, 375 drivers (four wheeler) and 110 others under the provisions of Motor Vehicle Act. Further, 993 have been fined for moving without face mask under the Pandemic Act.
Under the leadership of DSP (Traffic), Traffic Police Cops have been deployed at various check points across the district. They are intercepting the moving vehicles and the drivers / riders are being questioned about the cause of their movement.
Action is being taken against those who are unable to produce proper excuse. Rs 500 fine is being imposed on the people moving without masks. Face Masks are also being provided to these violators. Traffic Police appealed the residents of Durg city not to leave the house in view of the corona epidemic. They must wear masks while moving out and follow social distancing and the rules of lockdown.
