2771 athletes participate in Road Safety Marathon
Bhilai, Feb 14: For the last 27 days, Durg Police is organising various events under the directions of Vivekananda Sinha (Inspector General of Police, Durg Range), for making the people aware of traffic rules and make them realize their responsibility under the ongoing 32nd Road Safety Month. In this sequel, a 5-km road safety race and a skating competition for children were successfully organized on Sunday. 2297 male runners and 474 women runners, total 2771 runners participated in this race. Before the start of the race, all the runners were sworn in by the Chief Guest Devendra Yadav (MLA Bhilai Nagar) for always obeying the traffic rules. Thereafter, Chief Guest Devendra Yadav, Dr Sarveshwar Narendra Bhure (District Collector, Durg), Prashant Thakur (Superintendent of Police, Durg) and Rohit Jha (Additional Superintendent of Police) flagged off the skating competition. A total of 129 children participated in the skating. After that, the marathon was flagged off. The run began from the office of Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic) and moved across, 32 Bungalows from the center point of Y-Shape Bridge to Garage Road via Battalion Road, ITBP Headquarters to Nehru Nagar Under-Bridge, Nehru Nagar Square and returned back to its origin point. Top ten runners will be awarded during the valedictory function of Road Safety Month on February 17. The winners (Male / female) will get Rs 5100 cash reward; runners up (Male and Female) will get Rs 3100 cash prize and third position runners (Male and female) will get Rs 2100 cash reward. 4th to 10th position holders will get consolation reward of Rs 1100 each.
Athletes from Kawardha, Rajnandgaon, Raipur, Janjgir Champa, Baloda Bazar, Raigarh and almost all districts of Chhattisgarh as well as Nagpur (Maharashtra), Balaghat (Madhya Pradesh) participated in the run. The main objective of this event is to bring awareness among the people about the traffic rules and make them realise that the petty negligence on the road causes economic loss to us, our family and country.
Along with the athletes, MLA Devendra Yadav, Dr Sarveshwar Narendra Bhure (District Collector Durg), Prashant Thakur (Superintendent of Police, Durg), Rohit Jha (Additional Superintendent of Police, City), Shaukat Ali (Deputy Superintendent of Police, Headquarters), Vishwas Chandrakar (City Superintendent of Police, Chhawani), Vivek Shukla (City Superintendent of Police, Durg), Akashrao Girpunje (SDOP, Patan), Gurjit Singh (Deputy Superintendent of Police, Traffic), Nilesh Dwivedi (Reserve Inspector), Inspector Naresh Patel (Cyber Cell In-Charge), Inspector Shruti Singh (Traffic Inspector) Bharti Markam (Traffic Inspector), Sangram Singh (Traffic Inspector) Lata Chare (Traffic Inspector) and members of various organisations, Coaches of Steel City Athletics Club Bhilai and referees joined the race.
A street play was staged by the members of IPTA Kala Manch Sector 01. This institution is working for the last two years in the traffic awareness program with the Traffic Police Durg. Through this street play, the people were sensitised about the loss that occurs due to violation of traffic rules.
