History sheeter arrested for thefts; Rs 10 lakh booty recovered

Bhilai, Feb 23: With the arrest of a notorious thief, police claimed to have solved almost seventeen cases of housebreaking and thefts. Stolen booty worth over Rs 10 lakhs was recovered from the possession of the accused. The arrested thief is a history sheeter and is a native of Tilda area of Baloda Bazar District. For the last three years, he was secretly residing in Jamul area.

Addressing media persons here at Traffic Tower in Nehru Nagar, Superintendent of Police Prashant Thakur informed that considering the rising cases of thefts and burglaries, police was maintaining vigil on the activities of suspects and criminal record holders. The network of informers was also activated for the purpose. In this sequel, police came to know that a history sheeter of Baloda Bazar was hiding in Jamul  area. He was not engaged in any job but was spending in small denomination currency. His activities also appeared suspicious.

Acting on this tip off, Jamul Police team led by Inspector Vishal Sone took the suspect in custody. The history sheeter identified as Jeetu Chelak disclosed that he was secretly residing in Ghasidas Nagar area since the year 2018. During sustained interrogation, he confessed to have committed thefts at almost 17 houses during 2018 to 2021. He further disclosed that he sold the stolen booty to Mantram Dahre of village Pausari Simga (Baloda Bazar) and Dheeraj Jaiswal of Camp 2, Chhawani. They were also arrested on charges of purchasing the stolen booty. The accused committed thefts between April 25, 2018 to February 07, 2021. He targeted the houses situated in Ghasidas Nagar, Sundar Vihar Colony, Vishwa Bank Colony, Kurud and other places.

Police recovered the stolen booty including gold and silver jewelry including mangal sutra, ear rings, anklets, etc. About 2.7 kgs of silver ornaments, 164 grams gold ornaments and Rs 9700 cash has been recovered from him. ASP (City) Rohit Jha, CSP (Chhawani) Vishwas Chandrakar and Inspector Vishal Sone (SHO, Jamul) were present during media briefing.
