Changed Layout Diagram of Universal Rail Mill dedicated

Bhilai, Sep 02: A function was organised in the Conference Hall of Universal Rail Mill (URM), Bhilai Steel Plant, on August 30, 2021 to dedicate the layout diagram of URM. URM is a new Mill that has been commissioned as part of the MODEX project of SAIL BSP. Commercial production of rails started from this Mill from December 2016. At present, R-260 grade 60E1 profile rails are being rolled in the mill as per requirement of Indian Railways.
There have been a lot of changes in the layout of URM after it’s commissioning. Wilson Mammen of Industrial Engineering Department (IED) prepared the Layout of URM incorporating all the changes in the layout. It took him two years of hard work to complete the Layout after several site visits and discussions & deliberations with the Senior Executives of URM. Anish Sengupta, CGM (URM) & HOD along with his team led by MV Ram Prasad, GM (Operation), Prakash Bhondekar, GM (Mechanical) and Shishir Shukla, GM (Electrical) took special interest and monitored the preparation of the Layout.
A program “SYNERGY – IED & URM – Experience Sharing” was organised under the guidance of Subrata Praharaj, GM I/c (Management Services) where a presentation was made by Wilson Mammen. In his presentation, he depicted various projects completed by IED for URM.
The projects undertaken by IED include Monitoring of roof refractory lining work of reheating furnace during the commissioning stage of the Mill, Study of URM: Phase I, II & III, Study for Ergonomic Redesigning of Workstation at Transfer Pulpit of Rail Welding Line (RWL), Preparation of PERT network and Monitoring for different Capital Repairs (CR) over the years. The second part of the presentation was presented by Sanjay Sapate, AM (IED) who gave the details of the Incentive Schemes for URM prepared and designed by IED.
Anish Sengupta, CGM (URM) and HOD in his address elaborated the work of IED and appreciated the help extended by IED for ramping up the production and stabilization of the Mill. He also said that the layout prepared by IED will be very useful during VIP visits and for trainees and new employees for getting the overview of the complete process of the Mill at a glance. He also hoped that IED will support URM in future also in the same manner. AS Ojha, DGM (IED) and HOD, in his address depicted the Importance of IED for the smooth running of URM and to give assurance for extending all the necessary help to the Shop. HK Pathak, GM (URM) said IED had always helped URM to overcome the teething problems after the commissioning and taking up various studies in URM.
The program was attended by Executives and Non-Executives of URM & IED. The program was conducted by Debendranath Behera, GM (URM) along with Narendra Ingle, Personnel Officer (URM).
