Congress Corporator beaten to death in Hathkhoj

Bhilai, Nov 16:
A sitting Corporator of Bhilai Charoda Municipal Corporation was beaten to death at Hathkhoj area of Old Bhilai late evening on Monday. The deceased was an independent Corporator from Ward 2 Hathkhoj but had later joined the Indian National Congress. Playing cards, water pouches, etc were recovered from the crime scene. It is suspected that dispute arising of gambling was the reason behind this murder. As the deceased was an elected public representative of the state’s ruling party, police are handling the case very carefully. Some suspects have been rounded up and are being interrogated. IGP (Durg Range) is also monitoring the investigations.
According to information, the deceased was Suraj Banchhor (39) a resident of Ward 2, Hathkhoj of Bhilai Charoda Municipal Corporation. He had left home around 21:00 on Monday and later he was found lying near the Bandhwa Pond. He had suffered fatal injuries on his body. Relatives rushed him to BM Shah Hospital, Ramnagar where the doctors pronounced him brought dead. There were injury marks on his face, back and abdomen. Prima facie it appears that the assailants had attacked him with rod, sticks as well as sharp weapons.
According to cops positioned at Old Bhilai Police Station, they received information about the murder around 23:45 hrs. Till then, the relatives had taken the victim to the hospital and the doctors had declared him dead. Senior police officers reached the Hospital and after performing inquest, the body was sent for autopsy. Later, crime scene investigation was also conducted. Family members and friends of the deceased were interrogated. During preliminary investigations, it was discovered that the spot where the incident occurred is actually a gambling den. People are seen here gambling on playing cards during the night. Locals stated that Suraj was last seen talking to some outsider people.
Body of the deceased was taken to his residence after autopsy in the afternoon hours of Tuesday. Soon a large number of locals gathered near his residence and thereafter staged chakkajam . The family members demanded justice and immediate arrest of the assailants. Cops managed to diffuse the tension after which last rites of the mortal remains were performed. Suraj is survived by wife and two children.
On the other hand, IGP OP Pal and SSP Badri Narayan Meena chaired a meeting at Old Bhilai Police Station and constituted different teams to investigate on all possible angles. About a dozen of suspects are being interrogated. Police claimed that the case will be solved soon.
