NSPCL engineer dies in freak accident

A young engineer of NTPC – SAIL Power Company Limited (NSPCL) died in a freak industrial mishap which occurred late evening on Monday. The deceased was identified as Gatla Kishore Babu (29) a native of Jagtail, Telangana. He was positioned as Engineer in the NSPCL Plant situated in Puraina. He fell down in a drain of the cooling tower and the body was flown away with the stream of water to the Sump Well. He got trapped in the deep water and drowned. A special probe team has been constituted which will explore the causes of this mishap.
According to sources, Kishore was on second shift duty on Monday. At around 20:00 hrs, he went to the Power Plant #2 of NSPCL for measuring the vibration. After accomplishing the task, he was returning back when the mishap occurred. His companion stated that while crossing the Cooling Tower, a slab of the channel suddenly collapsed and Kishore fell into the drain which was about five feet deep. He was flown with the stream of water into the sump.
Search and rescue operations were immediately launched by the teams of NDRF and SDRF. At around 01:45 hrs, the body was fished out from the sump. Bhatti Police performed inquest and the body was sent to the mortuary. Kishore’s relatives in Telangana were informed about the incident after which they are coming to Bhilai. Remaining formalities of autopsy, etc will be conducted after taking consent of the family members.
