Thousands of quintals of paddy seized

Sakti-Janjgir, Sept 01: As per instructions from Collector Jitendra Kumar Shukla, the Food Department conducted raid in two ricemills viz. Maharaja Trading Company and Maharaja Mini Rice Mill, Akaltara and seized thousands of quintal of paddy from the mill.
According to sources, for lifting of paddy collected for Khariff marketing year 2019-20 and 2020-21, it is on charges of showing carelessness in carrying out custom milling work and not utilising 100% of milling capacity and fortified milling that this raid was conducted.
Food officer Amrut Kujur informed that during inspection, a total of 993 quintal rice and 4632.80 quintal paddy was seized from Maharaja Trading Company Akaltara. Similarly 1289.50 quintal rice was seized from Maharaja Mini Rice Mill Akaltara and this action was taken under under the provisions of Chhattisgarh Custom Milling Rice Procurement Order 2016. He informed that this action would continue against the rice millers not carrying out custom milling of paddy purchased by the goverment on MSP.
It is notable here that from Janjgir-Champa district, custom milling of 60000 MT of paddy is to be done for ‘Arva’ and ‘usna’ fortified rice and which according to state government’s instructions both for ‘Arva’ and ‘Usna’ fortified rice should have been completed by Sept 2021.
During this inspection, Manoj Kumar Tripathi Asst. Food Officer, Vinay Bhushan Kujur, Asst. Food officer, Manoj K Sahu and Hemant K Brahmabhat Food inspectors were present.
