CITU for immediate wage revision with serious and meaningful discussion

Bhilai, May 18: Hindustan Steel Employees Union (CITU) has forwarded letters to the Executive Director (P&A) through the heads of various departments of Bhilai Steel Plant demanding immediate finalisation of wage revision through serious and meaningful talks. The union alleged that there has been no serious and meaningful effort on the part of management for finalisation of the wage agreement which is pending for the last 53 months. CITU Organisational Secretary DVS Reddy stated that the workers representatives have reduced their demand to all time low of 15% MGB but the management is still adamant on its stance. So far, more than 205 personnel have died of Covid infection in Bhilai. Almost all the unions are demanding compassionate appointment to the dependents of the deceased workers but the management’s attitude seems to be passing the time silently. As the families of the deceased workers will have to choose between job or EFBS, the bereaved families are confused as the management is not taking any decision over compassionate appointment.
After the death of a worker, the management must continue the medical facility for their dependents as it is not going to impose any additional financial burden. Another issue which is agreed upon but not finalised is considering the training period for reckoning of eligibility criterion for promotion with effect from 2003. The management is not negotiating on the pending demands of the previous pay agreement. Contract workers are contributing equally with the regular workers and face all the challenges and dangers shoulder to shoulder, but the demand for their wage agreement has not yet been answered by the management. Apart from this, due to no serious efforts by the management on all the demands tabled by the employees, the workers are feeling that the management does not want finalise the salary agreement. The negligent and adamant attitude of management has triggered widespread resentment among the workers.
