Suspended ADG GP Singh charged of extortion

Bhilai, Jul 28: Another FIR has been lodged against the Chhattisgarh Police’s suspended Additional Director General GP Singh on charges of extorting Rs 20 lakh from a civil contractor. On complaint of a civil contractor, the FIR has been lodged at Smriti Nagar Chowki of Supela Police Station.
According to information, the victim is a civil contractor involved in construction of roads and is a resident of Surya Vihar Colony, Smriti Nagar. He had some money dispute with his partner after which he approached police and made a written complaint to the erstwhile IG (Raipur Range) GP Singh.
The complainant alleged that instead of taking action on his complaint, GP Singh provided protection to his partner. Later, GP Singh allegedly victimised the complainant in a fabricated case.
Thereafter, through his close aide Ranjeet Saini, he started threatening the complainant’s family and demanded Rs One Crore for providing some relief in the case. The victim’s family has paid Rs 20 lakh as advance to GP Singh.
Durg Police conducted investigation on the written complaint made by the Contractor and after finding merits in his complaint, an FIR has been lodged against GP Singh and Ranjeet Saini under sections 388 (Extortion by threat of accusation of an offence punishable with death or imprisonment for life, etc); 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention of Indian
Penal Code.
It needs to be mentioned here that 1994 batch IPS officer GP Singh was suspended by the Chhattisgarh Government after recovery of disproportionate assets and objectionable documents from his whereabouts in a raid conducted by the Economic Offences Wing and Anti-Corruption Bureau in the first week of July 2021. He is also facing charges of sedition, spinning conspiracy against public representatives and promoting enmity.
