Work on war footing to complete Kauhi lift irrigation scheme

Bhilai, May 31: Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel had instructed to increase the scope of irrigation in the district through irrigation schemes. On receiving instructions, the work of renovating the lift irrigation schemes is underway at a rapid pace in the district.
The lift irrigation scheme in village Kauhi is being renovated and improved in this sequel. This scheme was started in the year 1986 and at that time its objective was to irrigate 1500 hectares. In need of renovation, it was not possible to operate the lift irrigation in full capacity due to which only 200 hectares of Kauhi village was being irrigated. Now this project is being rejuvenated. On completion of renovation and up-gradation works, this project will be able to irrigate 2500 hectare area.
Collector Dr Sarveshwar Narendra Bhure inspected the progress of the scheme the other day. Executive Engineer of Water Resources Department Suresh Pandey informed that this scheme will provide irrigation facility in nine villages.
These villages include Kauhi, Borenda, Jarwaye, Kesra, Khamharia, Dangania, Tarrighat, Sonpur and Sipkona. He said that Rs 4.33 crore was sanctioned by the government for this project.
This includes construction of intake well, pump house along with five VT pumps and lining work of entire canal network. Executive Engineer informed that this scheme will not only facilitate cultivation in Kharif but it will be possible to provide water for Rabi crop also.
Collector directed to complete the construction work within the stipulated time frame so that the villagers can get the benefits at the earliest. Ashok Sahu, Vice President, District Panchayat Durg, CM’s OSD Ashish Verma and other officials were present.
