SAIL & PM’s Trophy Scholarships given away on digital platform

Bhilai, Feb 19: A function was organised on digital platform to give away PM’s Trophy and SAIL Scholarships to 292 students for the year 2019-20 to direct dependents (students) of employees of SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant on February 18, 2021. Director I/c SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant Anirban Dasgupta and Executive Directors of the Plant participated in the programme.
Wishing the students the very best for a bright future ahead, Dasgupta in his address said the scholarship amount would surely motivate them to excel in their chosen field of study. A total amount of Rs 38.25 lakhs was disbursed as scholarship amount. It is worth mentioning that 140 out of the total number of scholarship recipients are girls.
Dr SK Issar, ED (M& HS); Shri Rakesh, ED (MM); Rajiv Sehgal, ED (Works); AK Bhatta, ED (Projects); PK Ghosh, CGM (TSD); S Rangani, CGM I/c Finance;TapanSutradhar, Acting ED (Mines) were all connected digitally along with recipients of scholarships and their parents.
Vaishalli Supe, DGM (TSD-Education) gave the welcome address and brief of the programme. The scholarships are awarded to wards of employees on courses joined and scores / rank in entrance exams based on marks of Class XII Board Examination. The programme was conducted by Mahua Chatterji.
The PM’s Trophy scholarship is granted under two categories i.e. Merit and Merit Cum Means in 1:1 ratio. The Merit scholarship is open to wards of all employees (Executive and Non executive) based on merit only, whereas wards of Non-executive employees are eligible for Merit cum Means scholarship. SAIL Scholarships are awarded to the wards of employees of the unit in proportion to the manpower of the unit. One scholarship in every 600 employees is being awarded. Based on the manpower, 37 SAIL scholarships were given away for 2019-20.
75 PM’s Trophy Sarvottam scholarships, 180 PM’s Trophy (Merit &Merit Cum Means), 37 SAIL (Merit& Merit Cum Means) were given away by Director I/c SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant Shri Dasgupta. No applications were received under the category of Scholarships for Disabled Children.
The Prime Minister’s Trophy Scholarships were instituted in Bhilai Steel Plant, out of the interest amount earned from the deposit of the PM’s Trophy award money. The scheme was first implemented in the academic year 1995-96.
The eligibility for the consideration for award of the PM’s Trophy Scholarships is 60% marks in Class XII Board Examination of current year. For wards of SC/ST employees, the minimum percentage is 50%. The scholarship amount is Rs25000/- per annum under Sarvottam category. The scholarship is awarded for the period of the course only.
