SAIL-BSP bags Greentech Safety Culture Award 2021

Bhilai, Sep 06: SAIL-BSP has bagged the Greentech Effective Safety Culture Award 2021 in the Metal and Mining category in Heavy Industries. This award was given away in Jammu and Kashmir’s Sonmarg recently. GP Singh, HoD and Acting CGM (Safety & FS) and Manoj Kumar Dubey, GM Business Excellence Dept handed over the prestigious award to Anirban Dasgupta, Director I/c (BSP) on September 04, 2021. Present on the occasion were SK Agarwal, GM (Safety Engg Dept) and KC Sajan, AGM (Safety).
Director I/c (BSP) Dasgupta congratulated the Bhilai collective for winning the award and emphasised on strengthening Safety Culture in Bhilai Steel Plant. Anjani Kumar, ED (Works) also extended his best wishes to the Plant collective for bagging the award.
This award is given to those institutions who take preventive measures against dangerous incidents and are committed to follow an effective Safety culture. The objective of this award is to felicitate those organisations who are continuously taking measures to improve Safety culture.
The Greentech Safety Culture Award 2021 was awarded on the basis of Safe practices at BSP for the Calendar year 2020. The entries for the award are judged by national level experts and professionals.
A diagnostic study through Safety Climate Survey of 8400 Executives and Non-Executives of Bhilai Steel Plant was done for development of Safety culture in the organisation. Special attention was paid to reporting and investigation of unsafe behaviour and practices through structured methodology. Safety month, Safety week, Road Safety, National Safety day etc. were organised regularly for Safety awareness. Also, workplace management practices like 5S were followed and competitions were also organised for such practices and housekeeping.
Employees were given the option to volunteer as ‘Safety Warriors’. As many as 7081 employees were trained in 204 programmes on Safety, Fire safety, Occupational Health etc. Leadership Safety Programmes for Sr. Management were also organised. Also, programmes on Behaviour Based Safety (BBS) were successfully organised.
Mapping of high hazards was also done and solutions for them were thought of. ‘Roko-toko abhiyaan’ and Safety Culture campaigns were organised to improve Safety in the organisation.
