Police seizes lethal weapons which were purchased online

Bhilai, Aug 19: Under its crime prevention and control exercise, District Police have seized lethal weapons from the people who had purchased them online from e-commerce sites. Most of these attractive looking lethal weapons were purchased and being possessed by the minors and youngsters. Police have seized 83 nos sharp knives, pistols and rifles, etc.
While addressing media persons here at the Police Control Room on Thursday, SP Prashant Agrawal informed that they had been receiving information regarding online shopping of sharp knives, pistol-lighters and airguns by the people of the district. Taking a serious note over the possible use of these weapons in crime, SP Prashant Agrawal directed the Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Sanjay Kumar Dhruv to coordinate with the e-commerce companies to gather information about the people those who purchased / ordered sharp knives, pistol-lighters and airguns in the district. In this sequel, a meeting of the officials of e-commerce companies Flipkart, Amazon, Bluedart Exp , Myntra & Shadow fax, Myntra, xpressbees, Shree Maruti Courier Services, Ecome Express PVT Ltd, Delhivery, Fedex, DTDC, etc was organised at Police Control Room. They were asked to contact their headquarters and provide information about such online purchases. In response, the companies including Flipkart, Ecome Express PVT Ltd, Delhivery, Fedex provided shipping address and information of the product sent in the year 2020-21. Police sorted out the orders of sharp knives, lighter-pistols and airguns. A total of 70 nos knives, 01 axe, 01 dragger, 08 nos pistols and 02 air guns have been seized from the purchasers. During the verification campaign, the majority of the people who ordered lethal weapons were found to be minors and youths, who were attracted towards the beautiful sharp knives, pistol lighters and airguns on online shopping sites. In the presence of their family members, they were made to sign affidavits to not repeat this act in future. Police explained the circumstances of possessing such items and released them with a warning.

Durg Police is maintaining constant watch on the people who are purchasing such lethal and objectionable items from e-commerce companies and online shopping sites.
Durg Police has appealed to the common people for not getting tempted towards the attractive products of e-commerce companies which include lethal weapons like button knives, gupti, pistol lighter and airgun.
