BMC Commissioner appeals for public participation

Bhilai, Jul 02: A large scale plantation campaign to set into motion “Hamar Bhilai Harihar Bhilai” will be initiated for a greener city. Just like previous year, this year also “One Home One Tree” campaign is being launched in Bhilai Municipal Corporation area. Plantation program will be held on July 06 with the help of district administration. On this day all citizens will plant saplings in their homes, government offices, public places.
In order to increase the greenery in city, Bhilai Commissioner Rituraj Raghuvanshi has directed the officers that last year people had planted saplings enthusiastically, this time also all the society and voluntary organizations should make the campaign successful to preserve greenery.
He said that apart from planting saplings, people should also be motivated to save them and directed to use loudspeakers for publicity of the campaign. He added that while “Munga” (drumstick) saplings will be planted in Anganwadi centers, plants like Gulmohar, Kadamba, Champa etc shall be planted on the side of the roads so that the roads look beautiful and shaded as well as green.
Under the One Home One Tree campaign, a target has been set to plant 15,000 saplings in the Bhilai Corporation area. On the instructions of the Corporation Commissioner, deputy Commissioner Ashok Dwivedi took a meeting of all the zone commissioners to discuss the action plan prepared by the Horticulture Department to make the event a success. He directed to work expeditiously and make all the necessary preparations. In the meeting, Executive Engineer of the Horticulture Department, BK Dewangan said that under the plantation campaign, a target has been set to plant 11 thousand fruit trees including lemon, munga, jackfruit, guava and jamun and 4,000 shady plants including neem, karanj, gulmohar. Publicity will be spread through loudspeakers to make the plantation campaign successful.
Plants will be available in all zone offices – Corporation Commissioner Raghuvanshi has instructed all the officers to plant saplings in their offices and also take the responsibility of saving them. It was asked to plant Munga sapling in all the Anganwadi centers of the corporation area, in schools and hospitals as well as in all government offices, plantation would be done compulsorily.
On July 6, arrangements will be made for free distribution of saplings by the corporation administration for planting saplings in and around house. Commissioner has appealed to social organizations and industrial groups to plant saplings. He said that most of the saplings planted under the campaign last year have already grown up to an extent. This time also the saplings will be planted along with the pledge to take good care of it.
The participation of citizens is very important in the tree plantation campaign. For this social organizations can play an important role. The corporation administration appealed to all the social organizations, Chamber of Commerce, voluntary organizations of the city to make the One Home One Tree campaign a success as it is only with the help of public participation, the objective of Hamar Bhilai Harihar Bhilai will be fulfilled.
