Hi-tech cricket betting racket busted

Bhilai, Aug 04: With the arrest of three students of engineering, police claimed to have busted a hi-tech racket of online cricket betting which was being operated from Smriti Nagar area of the district. The accused used software named “CARRY777” for creating and sending the User IDs for the people interested in betting.
Using a Telegram group, they were connected with almost 14000 people. After accepting a certain amount, they provided the User ID to the people. They were accepting bets for the cricket match to be played between India and England. A joint team of Cyber Cell and Smriti Nagar Chowki conducted the operation to bust this racket.
While addressing media persons here at Police Control Room on Wednesday, ASP (City) Sanjay Dhruw, CSP (Bhilai Nagar) Rakesh Joshi and Inspector Gaurav Tiwari (I/c Cyber Cell) informed that on the directions of SP Prashant Agrawal, they are making efforts to tighten noose around the illegal activities of betting and gambling.
In this sequel, they received a tip off regarding a cricket betting racket which was being operated from a rented house in Smriti Nagar. Acting on this tip off, a joint team of Cyber Cell and Smriti Nagar Chowki conducted a raid and rounded up three young men in
the house.
Police recovered a laptop, two nos registers, four mobiles, a Jio wifi and Rs 2.38 lakhs on Paytm as well as betting records of Rs 8,68,258. The accused informed that on instructions of one Jitendra Pandit alias Kali, they have transferred this amount to 63 different UPI accounts.
They have also accepted some amount in their bank accounts and have transferred the same to other accounts as instructed by Kali. Police are collecting information about all the accounts which are involved in these transactions.
The three arrested accused are engineering students and were involved in this illegal activity for the past two months. The kingpin of the racket is still at large. The three arrested accused were living here in rented house situated in Saket Nagar, Smriti Nagar.
The accused are identified as Ashwini Kumar Pandey (24) son of Amarnath Pandey a resident of Siwan (Bihar); Tejas Pandey (23) son of Anil Pandey a resident of SECL Quarters, Gevra, Korba; and Atul Patel (30) son of Manohar Patel a resident of village Kashideeh, Janjgir-Champa. They have been booked under the provisions mentioned in Gambling Act.
