Kauhi Lift Irrigation project capacity to increase eleven times after up-gradation

Bhilai, Jul 31: With the objectives of improving irrigation facilities to promote agriculture, the state government is working on comprehensive projects of upgrading the old and existing lift irrigation schemes. These initiatives have started bearing fruitful results. On the instructions of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, work is being done at a fast pace to upgrade the Kauhi Lift Irrigation Project.
This lift irrigation scheme was built on River Kharun in the year 1986 and is presently irrigating only 225 hectare of land. Now its height is being increased up to 29 meters to achieve the target of irrigating about 2500 hectares. This will increase the project’s potential by eleven times.
Water Resources Department SDO NR Verma informed that on completion of Kauhi Lift Irrigation Scheme, 2500 hectare area of villages Kauhi, Borenda, Jarwai, Kesra, Khamharia, Dangania, Tarrighat, Sonpur and Sipkona will get the benefit of irrigation. Irrigation Department’s Executive Engineer Suresh Pandey informed that the radius of the intake well has also been expanded.
Earlier its radius was six meters and now it has been increased to twelve meters. He said that five nos VT pumps of 150 HP are being installed, which will increase the capacity of lift irrigation manifold. Along with this, the lining work of the entire canal network, control room and staff quarters etc is also being constructed.
In the past, Collector Dr Sarveshwar Narendra Bhure had also inspected this under construction project in Kauhi and instructed to complete the construction work at its earliest. Janpad Vice President Ashok Sahu said that the decision of the Chief Minister to increase the capacity of lift irrigation project of Kauhi has brought relief to hundreds of farmers of this area. Janpad Member Raman Tikariha and Sarpanch Manorama Tikariha also said that the farmers are very happy with this decision and it is a great work.
Chief Minister had announced to upgrade the Lift Irrigation Scheme during his first visit to Kauhi after swearing in as chief minister. Baghel in his address had said that huge possibilities of irrigation are created through Lift Irrigation Scheme. On his instructions, other water resource based structures are also being repaired in Durg district and their efficiency has increased manifold with small investments.
