Temporary Heating begins in Coke Oven Battery#10 of BSP

Bhilai, Jun 02: Temporary heating in SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant’s Coke Oven Battery 10 (COB#10) was started on Wednesday, June 02, 2021. Earlier on May 19, 2021, chimney heating process was started after completion of cold repairs of the battery. Battery anchorage, gas & service pipelines, concrete structures and complete refractory brick work was replaced during the repairs.
The temporary heating was started with the lighting of stove in ovens by Anjani Kumar, ED (Works) in the presence of SN Abidi, CGM I/c (Services), Arvind Kumar, CGM I/c (M&U), VK Shrivastava, CGM (EMD), GP Singh, GM I/c (SED&FS), GA Rao, CGM (CO&CCD) and other officials of CO & CCD. Union Representative, Sanjay Sahu, Secretary, Steel Workers Union was also present on the occasion. All Covid-19 protocols were followed with very limited officials present in the ceremony.
During the temporary heating, the temperature of the ovens is slowly increased for bringing it to a temperature of about 800°C. The process takes about 100 days and simultaneously other jobs are also done for commissioning of the battery.
The cold repair activities were coordinated by Rajiv Shrivastava, GM I/c (CRG & Plg) and the heating process was coordinated by LJ Benjamin, GM I/c (Coal, Battery and H&R) through their respective team members.
