DLSA conducts tree plantation; holds virtual legal literacy camp

Bhilai, Jun 05: On the occasion of World Environment Day, tree plantation programmes were organised at several places by District Legal Services Authority under the guidance of District and Sessions Judge Rajesh Srivastava (Chairman, DLSA). Through these programmes, the people were made aware about the significance of trees in human life. They were sensitised for conservation of nature.
DLSA Secretary Rahul Sharma planted saplings in the premises of Central Jail, Durg as well as Juvenile Remand Home in Pulgaon. He administered oath of protecting the nature to the inmates of remand home. In Ward 56 Baghera, tree plantation was done by the Paralegal Volunteers along with the Anganwadi workers. At Nyay Sadan in Gaurav Path, Durg, saplings were planted by DLSA Secretary along with the Paralegal Volunteers. Legal information was given in the virtual seminar organized on Environment Day for the students of St Thomas College. DLSA Secretary addressed this seminar and urged the students to plant more and more trees. Secretary District Legal Services Authority, Durg informed that World Environment Day is celebrated every year on June 05 all over the world with the purpose of making people aware about the environment. According to Section 278 of Indian Penal Code, whoever voluntarily contaminates the atmosphere of any place so as to render it inimical to the health of the general public who reside or do business in the neighborhood or commuting by public means, shall be punished with fine which may extend to five hundred rupees.
Article 48A of the Constitution of India directs the state government to ‘ensure the protection and improvement of the environment and to protect the forests and wildlife of the country’. Article 51A (g) entitles citizens to ‘protect and promote the natural environment and be kind to all living beings’. Human and environment are dependent on each other. Environment such as climate pollution or felling of trees directly affects the human body and health.
The habits of humans like saving trees, preventing climate pollution, and keeping cleanliness also affects the environment. Bad habits of humans such as contaminating water, wasting, and reckless cutting of trees etc adversely affect the environment. Humans face the consequences in the form of natural calamities. Paralegal Volunteers Umakant Dewangan, Duleshwar Matiyara, Gyaneshwar Thakur, Vinay, Uma Nirmalkar and Anganwadi workers were present.
