Corporator’s blind murder mystery solved; five held

Bhilai, Nov 22: With the arrest of five ruffians, police claimed to have solved the sensational blind murder mystery of BCMC Corporator Suraj Banchhor. The incident was the outcome of a two-year old rivalry. The prime accused was conspiring to kill Banchhor for the past one year. Police have recovered two nos country made pistols, four nos live cartridges and a motor cycle from the possession of the accused.
While addressing media persons here at Police Control Room on Monday, SSP Badri Narayan Meena said that Bhilai Charoda Municipal Corporation’s (BCMC) Corporator from Hathkhoj Ward, Suraj Banchhor was beaten to death by unknown assailants near Bandhwa Pond on November 15. As the deceased was an elected representative of the state’s ruling party, all the top cops including IGP OP Pal reached the crime scene and supervised the investigation.
On the directions of IGP, different teams were constituted to explore all possible angles. ASP (City) Sanjay Dhruw camped at the crime scene and quizzed the locals. Different teams were constituted under the supervision of CSP (Old Bhilai) Vishwas Chandrakar and DSP (Crime) Nasar Siddhiqui to conduct crime scene investigation, CCTV Footage, interrogation of locals and technical analysis.
Team of Inspector Vishal Sone and Inspector Jitendra Verma analysed the CCTV footages and possible whereabouts of the suspects. Team of Inspector Brijesh Kushwaha and Inspector Durgesh Sharma recorded the statements of the friends, family members and the people who were seen with the deceased at crime scene. Team of Inspector Gaurav Tiwari did the technical analysis while the team of Inspector Vinay Singh Baghel activated the network of informers and collected vital inputs.
Investigation team came to know that the deceased Suraj Banchhor had dispute with several people. Accordingly, police collected information about all of them and came to know that one suspect Dinesh Pal alias Deenu was missing from the day of incident. He had quarrelled with Suraj Banchhor about two years ago. Police gathered information about his friends and came to know that all of them were missing since November 15. On the basis of technical analysis, police team was sent to Janjgir Champa and managed to round up three of them. Another suspect was arrested from Hathkhoj.
During interrogation, it was discovered that Deenu and Suraj had dispute over several issues. About one-and-a-half years ago, Deenu was beaten by one Manoj Chaudhary and Ashique Vishwakarma. He wanted to take revenge but Suraj supported Manoj and Ashique. Few months ago, Deenu was arrested for possessing a country made pistol. According to him, the weapon belonged to Suraj but he did not help Deenu in any way. Further, Suraj had harassed him for putting up a pan kiosk in Hathkhoj. Since then, Deenu was planning to kill Suraj.
He included his friends Uttam alias Buddha and Deepak alias Bhurva in the conspiracy. Mohan of Khursipar provided them two nos country made pistols. With the intention of killing Suraj, the accused Deenu accompanied with Bhuru, Uttam Sona and Lokesh Sahu reached Hathkhoj on Nov 15. They attacked Suraj when he was alone near the Bandhwa Pond and stabbed him to death.
Police have arrested the accused identified as Deenu alias Dinesh Pal (41) son of Late Gajendra Pal a resident of Balaji Nagar, Khursipar; Uttam Sona (35) son of Purushottam Sona a resident of Balaji Nagar Khursipar; Deepak alias Bhuru (32) son of Late Banmali Sahu a resident of Purani Basti Chhawani; Lokesh Sahu (20) son of Vishram Sahu a resident of Hathkhoj and Mohan a resident of Khursipar. Two nos country made pistols, four live cartridges; sharp weapons and two nos bikes were recovered from them.
