Durg secures 6th position in country for Safaimitra Suraksha Challenge

Bhilai, Nov 21: The city of Durg has secured sixth position in the nation for Safaimitra Suraksha Challenge in the Swachh Survekshan 2021. President of India conferred the awards during gracious function “Swachh Amrit Mahotsava” organised by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on Saturday.
The Union Ministry of Urban Development has awarded the Durg Municipal Corporation with the 6th position in the entire country in the Safaimitra Suraksha Challenge of 2021. The Safaimitra Suraksha Challenge has been included in the competition for the first time. The award was presented at a function held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. Mayor Dheeraj Bakliwal, Commissioner Haresh Mandavi, Health Officer Girish Diwan, Deepak Sahu, Shekhar Verma and others received the awards.
Cleanliness of main septic tank, proper disposal of sewage was given priority by Municipal Corporation Durg in the Safaimitra Suraksha Challenge. Safety equipments were provided to the sanitation workers. Under which there is a provision of vacuum emptier for cleaning the toilets. Safety jackets, safety gloves, helmets are provided for the employees. Health check-up was also being done under the Chief Minister’s Health Scheme by linking the health schemes of the government. With these efforts, the Municipal Corporation secured the sixth position in the Safaimitra Suraksha Challenge.
Durg has already got the status of ODF Plus Plus. To make it open defecation free, the officers and employees have done the work of keeping an eye on the OD places during morning hours, updated the toilets, etc. Durg Municipal Corporation is working to achieve higher status in the next cleanliness survey. Mayor and Commissioner have expressed gratitude to all the residents for supporting the initiatives of the civic body. They appealed the citizens to separate dry and wet waste in door to door garbage collection and cooperate in garbage disposal.
