Govt formulating policies for holistic and integrated water management: Choubey

Bhilai, Dec 09: Agriculture and Water Resources Minister Ravindra Choubey performed bhoomipujan in village Hiretra on Thursday for the restoration of the reservoir, canal lining work and diversion scheme in Saja of Dhamdha assembly constituency area. On the occasion, Water Resources Minister Ravindra Choubey said that water conservation is the responsibility of every person.
It is necessary to bring awareness about water conservation and change the thinking of people. The state government is working in a positive direction by formulating policies for holistic and integrated water management. He further said that the renovation and lining work will prove to be a lifeline for the agricultural lands of the surrounding area. On completion of this project, the farmers here will be able to produce crops and vegetables in all seasons.
Akoli and Tumakhurd reservoir and Hiretra diversion will be renovated and canal lining work will be conducted with an expenditure of Rs 13.30 crore. Akoli reservoir and Tumakhurd reservoir will be renovated at a cost of Rs 9.34 crore. This project will be an increase the total irrigation area to 980 hectares in villages Barhapur, Parasbod, Dhamdha, Birjhapur, Dangnia, Sirnabhatha, Dharampura, Arsi, Gadadih, Siltra and Tekapar.
Along with this, renovation and lining work will be done under the new Hiretra and old Hiretra diversion scheme at a cost of 3.96 crore, which will increase the total irrigated area to 299 hectares. This will benefit the farmers of about 14 villages and will ensure irrigation of a total area of 3159 acres. Jeevan Verma, Chief Engineer DC Jain, Superintending Engineer Sameer George, Executive Engineer Suresh Pandey and villagers were present in the programme.
