Central Chronicle News
Bhilai, Aug 09: In association with Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh, the state government of Haryana has initiated working on a model to protect the contract labourers from exploitation in hands of the contractors. Initially, Haryana Government has announced to constitute a Skills Development Corporation with an investment of Rs 2 crore.
This corporation will be run by the state government and the contract workers of the entire state will be controlled through it, informed BMS National Working Committee Member Virendra Kumar while addressing media persons here at Supela on Monday. Anil Kumar Sahu (State General Secretary, Bhartiya Samvida Mazdoor Mahasangh, Chhattisgarh) and Ajay Kumar Reddy (State Vice President, Bharatiya Samvida Mazdoor Mahasangh, Chhattisgarh) were also present.
The BMS leaders informed that their union in its Cuttack convention held in April 2008, had passed a resolution for removal of the contract system of employment.
The union had resolved to work in the interests of contract labourers and struggle to protect their rights. Since then, the union has constituted various organisations of contract workers and is working to protect this section of workers from exploitation.
Speaking about the current situation in the country, they informed that the working class constitutes 93% of the population in the nation out of which 79% are contract workers. It is very necessary to unite and organise this work force and provide a nationalist leadership. BMS formed various organisations of the contract workers and efforts were made to include them as members as office bearers of the union.
The efforts paved the path for creating a constructive organisation. With its active working, the organisation managed to demoralise the exploiters. Considering the constructive struggle of BMS, the Haryana Government moved ahead to work with it to establish a Contractor Free State.
All the contract workers of Haryana are appreciating the courageous decision of the state government. The Haryana State has provided a model which will protect the contract workers from exploitation and ensure Wage Security, Work Security and Social Security to them.
After the constitution of the Skills Development Corporation, the basic problems of the contract workers viz Wage Security, Work Security and Social Security will be resolved automatically. This initiative will also improve the working skills of the labourers. The corporation will provide a skilled work force to various industries as per the demand.
The BMS leaders demanded from the Chhattisgarh Government to take similar initiatives for protecting the contract labourers / workers from exploitation and establishing an exploitation free society.
