Prize distribution of ED (Works) Skill Trophy held in HRDC

Bhilai, Sep 24: The prize distribution ceremony of Executive Director (Works) Work Skills Trophy Competition was organized at SAIL-BSP’s HRDC on September 18, 2021. The function was presided over by Arvind Kumar, CGM I/c (M&U). CGMs from various departments across the Plant were present. The largest number of entries were received from Universal Rail Mill. As such, Anish Sengupta, CGM (URM) was presented the Trophy for Maximum Participation. Other CGMs who were present on the occasion to motivate their department’s prize winners were MM Gadre, CGM I/c (RSM, RTS, RPDB & Plate Mill), BL Chandwani, CGM (OHP), Mukesh Gupta, CGM (BRM), and SV Nandanvar, CGM (SP-3).
A total of 51 trophies (First prize-10, Second prize-10, Third prize-10, Consolation prize -21) were presented to the winners in each trade by the Chief Guest of the ceremony Arvind Kumar, CGM I/c (M&U). Kumar congratulated all the winners and urged all the HODs to encourage more participation from their departments in the next year’s competition. Some of the prize winners also shared their experiences of participating in the competition and urged their colleagues to participate in large numbers.
Executive Director (Works) Work Skills Trophy Competition 2020-21 for Non- Executives was organized at HRD Workshop from January 18 to January 28, 2021 in 10 different Trades including Fitting, Computer, Welding, Hydraulics, Turning, PLC, Machining, Carpenter, Electrical and Material Handling. As many as 214 employees from Plant and Mines participated.
ED (W) Trophy for Work Skills Competition was instituted in the year 2008-09 and is being organized every year since then. The objective of the competition is to recognize, promote and showcase the skill and talent of BSP employees at Plant as well as at regional/national level. Since its very inception, the competition has been evoking good response amongst BSP employees.
Welcoming the participants, Saurabh Sinha, GM (HRD), apprised the audience that the participants have to go through a stringent selection process under the supervision of Master Instructors of the three HRD Workshops as well as experts in various trades from the plant. He described the competition as HRD’s marquee event and underlined the emphasis that HRD lays on training for enhancing engineering skills.
In addition to employees, all fresh entrants – ACTs, OCTs, and Trade Apprentices (ITI/Diploma/Graduate) are extensively trained in the HRD workshops. A total of 2039 persons were trained in 2019-20 while the coverage was 1716 in 2020-21, in spite of COVID-19 restrictions. Mukul Kumar Saharia, DGM (HRD) shared the report on the competition and achievements of BSP’s skilled employees in regional and national-level competitions in past years.
