BMC begins cleaning of large drains prior to monsoon

Bhilai, May 17: Bhilai Municipal Corporation has taken up largescale cleaning work of the drainage system wherein the nullahs passing through the corporation area are being cleaned so that smooth flow of water is maintained during the monsoons and there is no water logging.
Though the cleaning up of the system was initiated about two months ago. Under this the drainage line that comes from BSP side towards Khursipar area has been cleaned. The earthmovers have been pressed into service to clean the big nullahs and with the use of it, all the waste and debris are being cleaned while small drains are being cleaned manually.
On the instructions of Bhilai Commissioner Rituraj Raghuvanshi, the zone commissioner Sunil Agrahari on Monday inspected the narrow nullah in front of Indu IT School and gave necessary guidelines to the cleaning staff.
He asked to carry out the cutting of all the thorny bushes right upto Kutelabhanta so that the problem of waterlogging could be overcome in case of incessant or excessive rain.
It is noteworthy that the cleaning work of the drainage line near Indu IT has been taken up for the past several days wherein encroachments have been cleaned at several places. Areas where waterlogging conditions may occur are being checked and maintained at the zone level to manage small drains in those areas.
Nehru Nagar Zone Commissioner, Sunil Agarhari, explained that extensive cleaning of big drains are being carried out. Wherever required earthmovers are being used to clean the garbage and growths which is resulting in the widening of the canal so that the water can flow without any obstruction during the time of rain.
The sewer, garbage, debris have been removed, thorny bushes are being cut to clean the drain. Similarly, the work of cleaning small and big drains is going on in the zone, where the employees of the health department of the corporation are cleaning and removing the thorny bushes, membranes, foil and other wastes.
Through JCB, the rubble of the large sewer is being excavated and cleaned, it is also increasing the width of the drain so that the water will be able to reach the destination without any obstruction.
Zone 04 Health Officer Mahesh Pandey said that the drain from Ward 29, Ward 30 and Ward 37 Balaji, Bapunagar, Pragati Market to the Electricity Board office has been manually cleaned. Similarly, major drainage of Shantinagar and Vrindanagar have been cleaned in Zone 02 Vaishali Nagar.
