Bhilai City secures ‘Three Stars’ in annual cleanliness survey

Bhilai, Nov 20: The city of Bhilai has received a three-star rating in the Swachh Survekshan 2021. The city has secured fifth rank at state level and 29th rank among the cities having a population of 10 lakhs. The President of India conferred the awards during a gracious function “Swachh Amrit Mahotsava” organised by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on Saturday.
State’s Urban Administration and Development Minister Shiv Dahriya was also present on the occasion. Erstwhile BMC Commissioner Rituraj Raghuvanshi and erstwhile Commissioner of Risali Municipal Corporation Prakash Surve accompanied with Additional Commissioner Ashok Dwivedi and nodal officer Ramakant Sahu received the award in Delhi.
Bhilai and Risali Municipal Corporations have been awarded three stars. Under the able guidance of the then Mayor and sitting Bhilainagar MLA Devendra Yadav, Collector Dr Sarveshwar Narendra Bhure and Commissioner Prakash Surve, all the officials from the bottom level of sanitation workers worked hard to meet the standards of cleanliness.
Hard work and aware citizens of the city and officials of BSP management also played an important role in winning the award. BMC team including all-zone commissioner and health officer Dharmendra Mishra had conducted the cleanliness activities with full responsibility. The civic body worked with special attention on various parameters of cleanliness and succeeded in achieving higher position in the biggest survey of cleanliness.
Bhilai has already found a place in the list of garbage free cities in the year 2020. The aware people of Bhilai city played a vital role in enabling the city to become garbage free. Under the Swachh Survekshan, the corporation administration had focused on star rating and water plus. Important aspects of Swachh Survekshan were worked out. In order to stop the waste in the drains and not to allow the waste directly into the water sources, the work of installing nets in the drains and beautification work was done by eliminating the GVP point. In SLRM center, the work was done keeping in mind all the parameters under segregation of waste, intensive cleaning of densely populated areas and door to door garbage collection. The number of SLRM centers has also been increased.
Bhilai Municipal Corporation has already achieved the status of open defecation free and ODF plus plus. To make the city open defecation free, officials have done the work of keeping an eye on OD places during the morning hours and imposing fines on the violators. The toilets were updated and due to collective efforts, Bhilai has got the status of ODF Plus Plus.
For the third time, Bhilai was included in the category of three stars and was honored in the Swachh Survekshan 2021 as Garbage Free City. This star rating has been fixed on the parameters of waste management and other important works like elimination of GVP points, management of single use plastic waste, disposal of old dump sites, management of construction and demolition material, pothole free road etc. In Bhilai city, the work of waste management is done in SLRM center and compost center. In each ward, door to door solid waste is collected separately into wet, dry, sanitary and harmful waste by manual rickshaw, e-rickshaw, mini tipper etc.
Transport is done by vehicles to the nearby SLRM Center and Compost Center. The work of using the waste of construction and demolition has been done by Bhilai Corporation. Three star rating has been awarded in the year 2019, 2020 and this year also for the better work done by the civic body in solid waste management.
