Prof Rajiv Prakash appointed as Director of IIT Bhilai

Bhilai, Sep 20: President Droupadi Murmu, in her capacity as the Visitor of the institute, has approved the appointment of Prof Rajiv Prakash as the new director of IIT Bhilai. Prof Prakash received his Ph D from Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. He is a professor of Materials Science and Technology at IIT (BHU) Varanasi where he also served as Dean (R&D). Before joining IIT (BHU), he was posted at CSIR (IITR, Lucknow) as a scientist for seven years. His areas of research include polymers and nanocomposites, organic electronics and sensor devices and energy storage devices. He is having more than 225 publications in international journals of repute and 22 patents in his credit. He has been the recipient of Young Scientist Award (Council of Science and Technology), Young Engineer (INAE) Awards of India and Materials Research Society (MRSI) Medal Award of India. He is on the Editorial Board of several National and International Journals.

Prof Prakash takes over from the founding director, Prof Rajat Moona, who has been appointed as the new director of IIT Gandhinagar after a successful five-year term at IIT Bhilai. Under Prof Moona’s stewardship, IIT Bhilai has seen immense growth in academics and research. The student strength has grown from 115 to almost 900 by the end of the current admission cycle and close to 500 research papers have been published during this period. The state-of-the-art campus at Kutelabhata in Durg district is nearing completion and will soon be ready for the commencement of academics.
