Elevated vigil on anti-social behaviour; criminals give open challenge

Bhilai, Jul 11: After taking charge of the district, the newly posted Superintendent of Police succeeded in rejuvenating the department with his dynamic working style. In the last couple of days, the increased police exercise has tightened the noose around the people involved in criminal activities. But there are few offenders who are giving open challenges to the law enforcing agency.
A firing incident occurred on the same day when SP assumed office. Now again a firing incident has occurred on the intervening night of Sunday in the same locality. The accused involved in this offence are still at large.
On the directions of SP Prashant Agrawal, police presence was increased among the public on Saturday late evening under the crime prevention and control exercise. Police teams of almost all the stations patrolled their respective areas on foot and took action against the people involved in anti-social behaviours like drinking in public places, groups on street corners, etc who were spoiling the atmosphere in the localities and public places. Checking was conducted in outer areas, lonely areas near ponds, etc. The suspects, criminal record holders and other anti-social elements were checked by the police teams.
But around 22:00 hrs in the Newai Police Station area, some unidentified ruffians again opened fire giving an open challenge to the cops. The incident occurred in the home constituency area of the state’s Home Minister. According to information, three ruffians were present at a lonely place near the Chartanki area of Newai Bhata.
They were boozing in the open and in the meanwhile, one of them took out a gun and fired three rounds in the air. On information, a police team reached the spot but by then the accused had escaped.
On crime scene investigation, police recovered three empty rounds on the spot. It is being suspected that the same ruffians were involved in the firing incident which occurred on the intervening night of July 06. Taking the matter into serious cognizance, police have constituted several teams which are searching the accused in all possible places.
