Inter-state fraud arrested from Haryana
Raipur, Aug 23: DD Nagar police, in association of Raipur Police Cyber Cell, on Monday brought to the city a fraud after arresting him in Haryana’s Sonepat for allegedly duping the complainant of Rs 29.90 lakh on pretext of providing him soft loan.
According to police, complainant Ashok Sharda of DD Nagar on October 3, 2020, was contacted by the fraud through cell phone number 78381-15472 wherein the caller introduced himself as a senior executive from M/s. Aditya Birla Capital and further offered him a loan of Rs 5 lakh at a rate of 6% annual interest. With Sharda in need for some loan at that time for managing his dwindling business due to COVID-crises, he accepted the offer.
The fraud then asked him to deposit Rs 25000 in a given bank by October6, 2020, to initiate the documentations for loan approval. In this process, the fraud made Sharda a total of Rs 3.79 lakh November 23, 2020. On this very date, the fraud told Sharda that the limit of loan amount can be increased upon paying Rs 80000 which was again deposited in the given bank account.
Continuing with his fraudulent tactics, the fraud siphoned a total of Rs 29.79 lakh from within another few days but no loan was provided to him and on further pursuing the fraud simply switched off his phone number.
Taking his complaint, DD Nagar police station registered an offence under Section 420 IPC and Section 66(D) of IT Act launched an investigation. Undertaking the technical analysis of the mobile phone numbers and the bank account number in committing this crime, police ultimately zeroed in to Sonepat in Haryana. Soon a four-member police team was sent to Sonepat which after some hectic search finally pinned down accused Arun Verma who confessed of collecting cell phone numbers of his victims which he had collected from various call centres where he had worked earlier before launching his fraud business.
Police, then produced Verma in local court and obtained his transit remand following which he has been brought to Raipur and is now being interrogated further.
