Empower women by connecting them with multi activity businesses in Gauthans: Singhdeo

Raipur, Sep 05: State Panchayat and Rural Development Minister T.S. Singhdeo said that under Mahatma Gandhi MNREGA, the state government’s priority works are Narva, Gauthan, pasture, paddy collection platform, Panchayat Bhawan, Anganwadi building, check dam construction and to create create maximum man-days of work for labourers. He said that work should be done in the direction of empowering women of self-help groups economically and socially by connecting them with a large number of multi activity businesses in the Gauthans built in the state. He also directed MNREGA to increase working days for scheduled castes, tribes and weaker sections. The minister also directed the officers to complete the incomplete works within the stipulated time frame with quality. Singhdeo was reviewing the departmental work through video conferencing from Mini Conference Hall located at Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhawan.
Panchayat Minister T.S. Singhdeo also reviewed the Narva development program under Narva, Garuwa, Ghurwa and Bari. He directed to provide irrigation facilities to the farmers along with water conservation and promotion. He said that the construction of approved Gauthans should be started soon. There should be better management including electricity, water, green fodder for better maintenance of the animals in the built Gauthans. To provide employment at the local level for rural women in Gauthans, it should be developed as a multi-activity center in coordination with various departments. Minister Singhdeo also inquired about the progress of National Rural Livelihood Mission. He said that work should be done to make rural women self-reliant by training them in traditional and other income-oriented occupations. He directed the women groups involved in ‘Aajeevika Mission’ to provide better direction and market to their activities by doing bank linkage. Panchayat Minister Singhdeo also inquired about the progress of Swachh Bharat Mission. He gave instructions for construction and utility of community toilets in selected gram panchayats of the state. He said that along with electricity, water, sanitation should also be ensured in the toilets. Singhdeo also directed to expedite the construction of individual toilets. He stressed on sending the amount of the scheme directly to the account of the beneficiaries. The Minister also directed to expedite the construction of toilets in Naxal affected areas with the participation of public representatives and to make the villagers aware of using toilets. On the occasion Singhdeo reviewed the progress of various various development works under Mahatma Gandhi MNREGA, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural), Panchayat Directorate, 14th and 15th Finance Commission, Contributory Pension Scheme, Social Audit, Swachh Bharat Mission, National Livelihood Mission and various development works conducted by Panchayat and Rural Development Department. In the meeting, Additional Chief Secretary, Panchayat and Rural Development Department Mrs Renu Pillay, Secretary R. Prasanna along with other senior officers and chief executive officers of all district panchayats of the state were involved through video conferencing.
