Raipur, Nov 15: Tribes are the flag bearers of Indian culture. The leaders of the tribal community blew the trumpet of the struggle against the British rulers and laid down their lives. Today is a day to pay tribute to all those heroes. This remark was expressed by the Governor Ms. Anusuiya Uikey on the occasion of National Tribal Pride Day organized on the 146th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda.
The chief guest of this program organised by Vanvasi Vikas Samiti, Ms. Uikey said that Bhagwan Birsa Munda was a revolutionary leader who fought against the exploitation of tribals and fought to protect their honour and dignity. His birth anniversary is the pride day for crores of tribal people.
In the year of Independence Amrit Mahotsav, the Government of India has decided to celebrate the birthday of Birsa Munda as “Tribal Pride Day”. Due to this the tribal society has got respect for its glorious struggle history.
She said that the traditional religious culture of the tribal society is an integral part of the ancient culture of India. On the basis of this way of life described in the Vedas, our tribesmen, who have been living since time immemorial, are the backbone of the ancient society of India. It is also called Aranya culture due to the emergence of Indian culture from the Giri Kandars. The great heroes of our ancient culture, have dedicated their lives for their culture and nation. Referring to the contribution made by Birsa Munda in the freedom movement of India, Ms. Uikey said that his call brought awareness to the then tribal society and they opposed the British. The non-cooperation movement was started in the first phase of the protest. Seeing the growing influence of Birsa, the British arrested him by treachery. When he was released, the fire of freedom had flared up in the tribal society. Birsa Munda and the people of his organization faced the British with their traditional weapons and gave a tough competition to the British rule armed with guns and cannons. Birsa Munda awakened the tribal society against social evils and ostentation and inspired them to embrace the good. In this way he made a significant contribution in saving our ancient culture and traditions.
Ms. Uikey said that in the history of Chhattisgarh, apart from great personalities like Dr. Khubchand Baghel, Pt. Sunderlal Sharma, Veer Narayan Singh, Gundadhur, there were many such personalities who sacrificed everything for freedom, but they remained in oblivion. Such programs should be organized to remember them all and to inform the coming generation. In the program, cultural programs immersed in tribal culture were presented by the elders and youth of the society. The vote of thanks was done by Bhuvan Singh Raj of Vanvasi Vikas Samiti. On this occasion, the Vice Chancellor of Atal Bihari Vajpayee University, Professor A.D.N. Vajpayee, Vice Chancellor of Pt. Sunderlal Sharma Open University, Professor Vansh Gopal Singh, Dr. Chandrashekhar Uikey, former MP Lakhanlal Sahu, office bearers of All India Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram and Vanvasi Vikas Samiti were present in large numbers.
