Cyber fraud dupes man of Rs 40 thousand

Raipur, Jun 27: Continuing with repeated cyber frauds in capital Raipur, yet another man has been duped of Rs 40 thousand by an unidentified fraud. A complaint in this regard was lodged in Amanaka police station on Sunday. According to police, complainant Shiv Kumar Sao of Sarona RDA Colony had been experiencing problem in making transaction through GooglePay. Accordingly, the complainant searched for GooglePay help desk over internet. In the process he came through telephone numbers 1800412-03508 and 79756-24074.
Calling over the first number, Sao was told that GooglePay accounts are temporarily experiencing technical problem and to sort out the issue he needs to download AnyDesk app. Accordingly Sao uploaded the app after which the fraud called him back with the second telephone number and asked him to scan his bank passbook and the ATM card details printed over it. Once Sao completed both the scanning, the fraud extracted from him the PIN of ATM and sharing this highly confidential data with an unidentified man turned out to be major mistake as within minutes of sharing the ATM PIN, the fraud siphoned Rs 40 thousand from his bank account.
Police meanwhile have registered an offence under Section 66C and 66D of Information Technology (IT) Act and under Section 420 IPC. Further investigation is now underway.
