Webinar held on Global Tiger Day

Raipur, Jul 28: Every year Global Tiger Day or International Tiger Day is observed on 29th July to raise awareness about the tiger conservation issues and to generate public support and encourage conservation of tigers. On 28th July, the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau, along with the Forensic Science Education Society, Raipur (CG) organized a webinar to mark this year’s International Tigers day.
The collaborative dialogue is one of its kind, encouraging active participation of experts from different professions, to assess the role of evidence recording and other various issues that can help to strengthen the role of prosecution wildlife crimes cases.
Under the guidance of Regional Deputy Director Abhijit Roy Chowdhury, WCCB volunteer from central region Yashprada Joglekar an advocate from Raipur, coordinated the webinar along with Ms Rahi Thakur. The webinar aimed to address the issues related to tiger killing/hunting.
The first speaker of the webinar, Ayan Sadhu is a Scientist at the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) Tiger Cell, Wildlife Institute of India, shared his experience as a scientist and expressed how curbing crimes helps in the conservation of tigers. AB Shrivastav is a renowned veterinary and Retired Director, School of Wildlife Forensic and Health, Jabalpur (MP) also joined us and shared his views on Sample collection and how improper collection of evidence may implicate the entire trial? From Raipur, Forensic Expert and Vice President of Forensic Science and Education Society, Dr Sunanda Dhenge talked about, how the chain of possession between the spot of killing and the accused is established in the investigation of wildlife crime. The speakers discussed their experience years in the field of forensic. To share his experience of the first PIL he filed at the High Court of Chhattisgarh Nitin Singhvi encouraged young lawyers to actively participate more in the matters that need our prime attention.
Lastly, Prof Dr Priya Rao, as an academician added her views to the discussion, on what can be the changes at law school education help to generate awareness towards wildlife.”
