Thousands of fishes die in ancient Durga pond

Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi, Apr 03: In the ancient Durga pond allegedly some destructive elements mixed poison in the water and it resulted in thousands of fishes found dead on the sides of pond. The police did not find any bottle of poison on the side of pond and neither any empty packet of poison was also recovered from the place.
On of the oldest pond of GPM district Durga pond on Wednesday night was poisoned and thousands of fishes was found lying dead outside the pond. On Thursday morning when the local people noticed dead fishes outside the pond matter was reported to the local police and the police after reaching the spot have started their investigation. It needs to be mentioned here, Durga pond is near the place of origin of Arpa river and holds water all throughout the year. The immersion of Goddess Durga also takes place in this pond. This pond is also used during all religious programmes and people come here for their daily activities.
Pendra Nagar Panchayat chairman Rakesh Jalan when informed apprised the police about this incident. Pendra PS in-charge Yuvraj Tiwari suspects it is due to rivalry between the persons coming to this pond for catching fishes but no traces of poison was found in the nearby place.
