PET-CT machine and 10 modular operation theatres at AIIMS dedicated to nation

Raipur, Mar 21: Union State Health and Family Welfare Minister Ashwini Kumar Chaubey said that drugs and restrictions must be there to curb a spike in COVID-19 cases in certain parts of the Country. He was speaking to the media after dedicating 10 modular operation theatres and PET-CT machine in AIIMS, Raipur on Saturday. Mr Chaubey reviewed the progress of COVID-19 screening, treatment facilities, and vaccination and directed doctors and officials to increase the vaccination rate because of the spike in COVID-19 cases.
PET-CT is a state-of-the-art machine working under the Nuclear Medicine Department.
A Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scan is an imaging test that allows medico to check diseases in the body. The scan uses a special dye containing radioactive tracers. These tracers are either swallowed, inhaled, or injected into a vein in the arm depending on what part of the body is being examined. Certain organs and tissues then absorb the tracer. When detected by a PET scanner, the tracers help doctors to see how well organs and tissues are working.
He also dedicated 10 modular Operation Theatre at OT Complex. Mr Chaubey interacted with patients and their relatives and took feedback on the services. In Review Meeting on COVID-19 vaccination, Prof. (Dr) Nitin M Nagarkar, Director, AIIMS highlighted the major achievements of the Institute. ‘AIIMS has reserved 500 beds for COVID-19 patients. More than 46000 patients have been screened, around COVID-19 positive patients admitted and 6300 have been discharged to date. VRD lab has conducted 2.18 lakh tests’, he said. Mr Chaubey appreciated the efforts of Prof. Nagarkar and his team for remarkable progress in such a short span, especially during COVID-19.
Mr Chaubey spoke to MP Sunil Soni over a video call and congratulated him for opening Sarona Railway Station gate. Shri Soni demanded more state-of-the-art facilities at AIIMS which he readily agreed to provide his full support. The program was graced by the Deputy Director (Admin.) Anshuman Gupta, Financial Advisor B.K. Agrawal, Dean Prof. (Dr.) S.P. Dhaneria and Dr. Mudalsha Ravina.
