Congress to stage demo against rise in petrol-diesel prices today

Raipur, Jun 10: Congress has decided to hold a symbolic protest in front of petrol pumps across the country on June 11, 2021, against the rising prices of petrol and diesel and to demand withdrawal of this hike in fuel prices. During these symbolic protests, attention will be drawn to the problems being faced by the general public due to the continuous increase in the prices of petrol-diesel-cooking gas, unprecedented economic slowdown, rising unemployment and skyrocketing prices of all essential commodities.
Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Mohan Markam said that people battling COVID 10 for the last 15 months could not get medicines and other health facilities on time due to faulty policies of the BJP government at the Center. Moreover people reeling under extreme financial hardship due to economic slowdown and decreasing unemployment opportunities could not get assistance from the central government. Instead of paying attention towards plight of the people the central government led by BJP continued to hike prices of petrol and diesel, putting additional financial burden on the people, he said. BJP government raised prices of petrol and diesel to a record level by repeatedly increasing the taxes of petrol and diesel during the last seven years. Taxes have been increased by the BJP government at the rate of 23 rupees 87 paise per liter on petrol and 28 rupees 37 paise per liter on diesel as compared to the Congress government, he said, adding that due to these faulty policies and hike in taxes, petrol prices in many parts of the country have crossed Rs 100 per liter and diesel prices are close to Rs 100 per liter. Everyone knows that the effect of the rising petrol and diesel prices can be seen on prices of all types of goods and makes them expensive. Pradesh Congress Communication department head Shailesh Nitin Trivedi said that symbolic protest would be staged by local units of Congress party in several places with compliance of COVID-19 protocol.
