Distribution of free rice to 58.91 lakh families in Ch’garh

Raipur, Oct 10: While Chhattisgarh government is distributing rice at free of cost to to 58.91 lakh families of the state from May 2021 to November 2021, Government of India has allotted rice for free distribution to only 51.20 lakh Antyodaya and priority ration card holders in the state under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana.
It is clear that the state government is distributing more rice than the allocation received from the center in the state and incurring the cost of subsidy in rice of additional distribution. The states which are covered under National Food Security Act under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana of Food and Public Distribution Department of Government of India have received additional allocation of rice. Out of this allocation 5 kg rice has to be distributed from May 2021 to November 2021 to every family holding ration card. This allocation of rice has been received under National Food Security Act for distribution among 2 crore members in 51.20 lakh ration cards of the state even as all 68.63 lakh ration cards are in use in the state. Under National Food Security Act, the Government of India has sanctioned 7.19 lakh ration cards if Antyodaya Yojana and issued 44.01 lakh ration cards to priority families.
