Sensex loses 146 points, Nifty trades below 16,400
The Sensex and the Nifty today witnessed modest losses in the afternoon trade. Both stocks slipped amid negative global cues. The BSE Sensex was trading below the 55,000 mark while the NSE Nifty was trading below 16,500 level.
The Sensex lost 146 points, or 0.27 percent to trade at 55,957. The Nifty also fell 65 points, or 0.39 percent, to 16,434, when reports last came in.
In the forex market, the rupee also weakened 21 paise to trade beyond the 76 rupees per US dollar mark. The domestic currency was trading at 76 rupees and 12 paise against the dollar in afternoon deals.
