Notorious thief arrested for lifting Rs 2.50 lakh from SBI branch

Raipur, Feb 25: Moudhapara police, in association of Raipur Police Cyber Cell, on Thursday succeeded in arresting a notorious thief from Bhilai in connection to the sensational lifting of Rs 2.50 lakh from a counter inside Jai Stambh branch of State Bank of India (SBI) at Raipur on February 19 last.
According police, a massive hunt was launched for nabbing the thief once a complaint with regards to the lifting was lodged in Moudhapara police station. Screening of the CCTV grabs inside the bank led to confirmation that the cash has been lifted by an unidentified man. Along with pursuing further technical surveillance about the accused, police also set into studying similar offences registered in Durg and Rajnandgaon districts. Soon it was revealed that similar lifting of Rs 5 lakh had been committed in SBI’s Lalbagh branch in 2011 but the accused had never been traced.
Following this revelation, capital police immediately obtained CCTV grabs of that case and it was confirmed that the accused of both the case is the same person. In the meantime, it was also informed that youth named N Krishna Reddy of Sector-5 in Bhilai had been arrested in 2011 with regards to stealing at Kankaria Jewellers in Durg. The CCTV grabs of that incident doubly confirmed about the accused being the same.
Hereafter, a police team was immediately sent to Bhilai and the accused was taken into custody. Police also succeeded in recovering from him cash Rs 1.50 lakh and the bike CG07-BU-7375 that was used in escaping out of Raipur after committing the lifting.
The accused was then brought to Raipur and is now being interrogated further. In his confession, the accused has so far confessed about the lifting at SBI’s branch on February 19 and it has also been revealed that in order to hide his identity, the accused always used to carrying someone else’s cell phone and bike.
