Nigerian national arrested from Delhi
Raipur, Feb 01: Rajendra Nagar police, in association of Raipur Police Cyber Cell, on Monday brought from Delhi a Nigerian national after arresting him from there for duping a Raipur woman of Rs 5 lakh by befriending her Facebook and Whatsapp. Police have also seized four cell phones, a laptop computer, ATM card, pen drive, driving licence, PAN card and passport of the accused.
It should be recalled that the victim woman had complained in Rajendra Nagar police station stating that a fraud posing as Dr Ronald Christopher had sent her a friendship request over Facebook. Not suspecting him, the woman accepted the friendship request after which the fraud started immediate chatting with her over Facebook and Whatsapp. With the passing of time, the woman also shared her cell phone number with the fraud. Soon she started receiving Whatsapp call from number 44-7503990173 and 98219-65044.
Then on December 17, 2020, the complainant received a call from the fraud wherein he said about sending her some costly imported gift and also asked her to pay the customs duty for securing them. The fraud further assured her that he will be returning the money immediately on his arrival to India. In this manner, the fraud siphoned a total of Rs 5 lakh from the complainant by December 21, 2020 but no gifts arrived.
The fraud, identified as Ignatus Chukvageqou Nauruka, was immediately taken into custody and produced in a local court from where Raipur police obtained his transit remand to bring him here. The arrested accused has since confessed of having cheated scores of women in the same manner. Police, meanwhile, is interrogating further the arrested fraud.
