Naxals kill villager; police suspect outcome of frustration

Konta, Dec 14: A group of armed Naxals allegedly killed a villager and injured another person in Sukma district, police said on Tuesday.
The incident took place on Monday night in Kongdem village under Errabore police station limits, located about 400 km from the state capital Raipur, Sukma Superintendent of Police Sunil Sharma said.
The official said the rebels might have killed the man out of frustration over a recent encounter in which a cadre was killed and a militia commander of the outlawed movement was arrested. A group of 10 to 15 ultras carrying traditional weapons and firearms reached Kongdem village and axed to death a local, identified as Darre Naveen, he said. Confirming the murder, SP Sunil Sharma said that the youth was killed by the Maoists in village Kongdam under Konta block of Errabor police station area. His body was found lying on the road about 4 km from Kongdam. It is not yet known how the murder took place. The name of the slain youth is being told as Dare Naveen. Naxalites killed him late on Monday night by taking him from home. The insurgents also attacked another villager, but he somehow managed to save his life and alerted the police about the incident. A police team later rushed to the village and the injured man was taken to a hospital, the official said. A Naxalite pamphlet has also been recovered near the dead body, in which it has been said of murder, accusing the victim of deforestation and illegally occupying land. In the pamphlet recovered from the spot, which is of Konta Area Committee, mentioning the names of many other villagers, has accused them of deforestation and illegal occupation. Naxalites have warned such people to get better. The Konta Area Committee of Naxalites has carried out this incident.
