Lifer to man for raping girl
Durg, Sep 30: A special court in Durg district has sentenced a 22-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping a ten-year-old girl in 2018.
Additional district and sessions judge (fast track court) Sarita Das on Wednesday awarded life imprisonment till natural death to Lav Kumar Paswan, and also slapped a fine of Rs 5,500 on him, special public prosecutor Kamal Kishore Verma said.
According to the prosecution, the offence had taken place on May 8, 2018.
Paswan, a resident of Jamul area of Durg district who was 19 years old then, took the girl living in the same locality with her grandmother, to his house and sexually assaulted her there, it said. The offence came to light when the victim narrated the incident to her grandmother the next day, after which a complaint was lodged with Jamul police station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Verma said. The court convicted Paswan under IPC section 376 AB (rape of woman under 12 years of age) and awarded life imprisonment for that offence besides imposing Rs 5,000 fine. Apart from that, the court also awarded two years of rigorous Imprisonment to him for the offence under IPC section 506 (criminal intimidation) and imposed Rs 500 as fine.
