Assistance of Rs 5 lakh to be given to families of journalists

Raipur, May 30: Chhattisgarh government will give financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the families of media workers who have succumbed to COVID-19. The assistance would be given under Media Representative Welfare Assistance Rules.
Apart from this, the state government will also reimburse the expenses incurred in the treatment of media persons who were admitted to hospitals after getting infected with Coronavirus. Information about the families of COVID-affected media representatives is being collected by the Directorate of Public Relations.
Dependents of media personnel who died from Coronavirus or media personnel undergoing treatment can submit the application in the prescribed form along with the records to the concerned District Public Relations Office. A meeting of Journalist Welfare Fund Committee is being called soon to give this financial assistance to media personnel.
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel had earlier announced in his budget speech 2021-22 that on the untimely death of a media worker, the amount of financial assistance under the rules for the welfare of the media representative will be increased from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. According to the announcement of Chief Minister Baghel, necessary amendments have been made in the rules by the Public Relations Department. The amended rules have been sent for publication in the gazette.
