Raipur, Aug 13: Under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain, a review meeting of road safety was held at Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhawan through video conferencing. The Chief Secretary directed the Collectors and Superintendents of Police of all the districts of the state to review the causes of road accidents and take corrective measures. He said that such junctions where accidents are happening more, take necessary action after conducting intensive study district wise.
The government employees of the state should motivate the common citizens by using helmets, seatbelts themselves. Make citizens aware about the prevention of road accidents through village chaupal in rural areas. Jain told the Collectors, Superintendents of Police of all the districts that public awareness and training programs should be done regularly for road safety in the districts.
The Chief Secretary also directed to conduct a comparative study of the rules related to road safety with other states. The meeting was attended by Public Works Department, National Highways, improvement of previously identified black spots under PMGSY, protocol fixed for identification and improvement of new black spots and progress of improvement work, measures taken for safety on various routes, vehicles on major new routes.
Facilities installed for drivers, action taken to ensure road design from the point of view of road safety, road safety audit of main roads were given detailed information. Under the Transport Department, the updated status of implementation of the new Motor Vehicles Act, action of overloaded vehicles, road safety and other measures to prevent accidents were discussed.
Under the Health Department, necessary guidelines were given on the location of trauma centers in the state, mapping of government and private ambulances. Under the Education Department, traffic education materials in textbooks, programs for upgradation of awareness and awareness for road safety among students, action to establish standard system in school bus operation were discussed. Information about the current road safety scenario and road safety fund, enforcement action on violation of traffic rules, awareness campaign to follow traffic rules was given under the Police Department. Similarly, under the Urban Administration Department, information was given regarding the future action plan regarding sign-boards and hoardings affecting the drivers on the roads and removal of animals. In the meeting, there was a discussion regarding the compliance of the guidelines of the Supreme Court on Road Safety.
Instructions were given to the departmental officers regarding the smooth operation of the Inter-Departmental Lead Agency (Road Safety). Additional Chief Secretary Subrat Sahoo, Secretary Public Works Department, Siddharth Komal Pardeshi, Additional Transport Commissioner, Dipanshu Kabra, Inter-Departmental Lead Agency (Road Safety) President, Sanjay Sharma, District Collector, Superintendent of Police and other senior officers were present in the meeting.
