Governor releases a special cover issued by the Department of Posts

Raipur, Sep 06: Governor Ms. Anusuiya Uikey released a special cover being issued by the Indian Postal Department on three GI tagged products of Chhattisgarh, Iron Craft of Bastar, Wooden Craft and ‘Jeera Phool’ Rice at a function organised at Raj Bhavan. Congratulating the postal department for this initiative, he said that it will surely give a different identity to the soil of Chhattisgarh state in the whole country. On this occasion Post Master General Chhattisgarh Circle, Ramchandra Kisan Jaibhaye, Secretary to Governor Amrit Kumar Khalkho and Legal Advisor R.K. Agarwal was present. The Governor said that on the lines of “Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan” of the Government of India, the Department of Posts issued a special cover on 3 GI tagged heritage sites of the state through the vast network/philately bureaus and counters of the Department of Posts spread all over India. This initiative taken for the spread is highly commendable. The Indian Postal Department has been a participant in every happy and sad moment of our life. Whether it is the appointment letter of someone’s job, wedding invitation or other happiness and sorrow message, we all get curious on seeing the postman. The popularity of the postal department can also be gauged from the fact that his character has been taken in many Hindi films and songs have also been composed on the postman. The postal department performs its duties in every circumstance, in every season. Its vast network extends from village to village. She said that keeping in view the present needs, the Department is making government services accessible to the common man through Post Office Common Service Center, Aadhar Center and Passport Seva Kendra. Even keeping in mind the religious faith of the people, Gangajal is also distributed by the department. Apart from this, important contribution is also being made by the department in the promotion of historical, geographical and cultural pride through various philately materials.
Governor said that Bastar Iron Craft and Wooden Craft have an integral place in the tribal culture and history of the state. In the last few years, both the crafts have emerged as an art and these crafts have also become the identity of the culture of Chhattisgarh in the country and abroad. Along with this, ‘jeera phool’ rice which is the first and so far only agricultural product of the state, which has been given GI tag by the Government of India for its special quality and identity. She said that the Chhattisgarh Postal Circle would continue to contribute in the future also in promoting the geographical, historical, cultural pride and heritage of the state in the same way in the country and abroad.
